Place Name

Alludes to the nearby area of Horsenden Hill, which may be a reference to a former landowner or farmer as in Horsa’s Hill. John Field in Place-Names of Greater London explains: “The personal name being more likely to produce forms with -n- than would Old English hors, horse.” It was first mentioned as Horsendun in 1203, it was spelt Horsindune in 1262 and Horsindon in 1302. Horsington Wood was recorded in 1822. This led from the village of Perivale to Horsenden Farm.
