Place Name
Named after Sir Martin Vesey Holt, a banker and army agent, who lived at the manor house Mount Mascal with his wife Lady Phyllis Holt, a sister of the 5th Earl of Powis, around the turn of the 20thCentury. Their only son, Vesey Martin Edward Holt, was the great-great-great-great grandson of Clive of India through his mother. They ran the private family bank, Holt’s, which later became part of the Royal Bank of Scotland.
