Place Name

Just over the border in Surrey. One of a number of roads laid out on the old hospital grounds which are named after people connected with the former asylum. In this case after the architect George Thomas Hine who designed the Netherne Hospital mental asylum to accommodate 960 patients in 1900. The site, on the Netherne farming estate, was chosen by Surrey County Council after the Brookwood Asylum had grown overcrowded.
