Hatton Green, TW14

Place Name

Descriptive. This leads to the village green. The name Hatton itself comes from Anglo-Saxon Hǣþtūn made up of two Old English words hǣth and tūn meaning heath farmstead or estate. It was first written as Hatone in the Donesday Book of 1086. By the early 13thCentury this small hamlet on the western edge of Hounslow had become Hattone and later in 1293 Hatton next Bedefunte. Until 1819 its cultivated area and small residential gardens were surrounded by heath.
