Harrow Green, E11

Place Name

According to John Kennedy in a History of Leyton the green had previously been recorded as Sols Green in 1716, Sauls Green in 1723, and Salls Green 1731. By 1777 it was known as Salts Green. But it took its present name sometime around 1851 after the nearby public-house, named in 1651 as Le Harrow, but today as the Plough & Harrow.
