Place Name
Named after Frognal House which was originally built in the 15thCentury and then rebuilt sometime around 1670 as the seat of the Sydney family. The name is thought to mean a nook of land inhabited by frogs. But an early map of around 1762 has the area as Frogpoole. The first Lord Sydney was Thomas Townshend, a Whig politician, who gave his name to Sydney, Australia. See also Frognal Avenue.
