Fellbrook, TW10

Place Name

With neither a fell, a barren upland, or any evidence of a brook running nearby the name is a mystery. Given that the road was not laid out until the mid-1960s it appears that the developers were following in the footsteps of their Victorian predecessors in giving, as Laura Wright explains in her book Sunnyside: A History of British House Names, a “veneer of antique authenticity to newly-coined names for new houses in new suburbs”.
