Dynevor Road, TW10

Place Name

Like many of the local names around Richmond this is connected to wealthy  Selwyn family. Frances Townshend (February 20, 1772 – August 13, 1854) was Baroness Dynevor following her marriage in October 1794 to George Talbot Rice (an English spelling of the Welsh name Rhys), 3rd Baron Dynevor, the Tory MP for Carmarthenshire. She was the daughter of Thomas 1st Viscount Sydney and Elizabeth Townshend (nee Powys) and the granddaughter of Albinia Selwyn on her father’s side. They had two sons and five daughters and lived at the magnificent Newton House in his Dynefwr estate near Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire, in Wales. In Richmond, Dynevor House, an early Victorian property, was laid out on Mount Ararat Road. Dynevor Gardens and Villas were built in Church Road.
