Devenish Road, SE2

Place Name

Named after Devenish Island in Lower Lough Erne, County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland, where the ruins of the mid-15thCentury St Mary’s Augustinian Priory are situated. It was dissolved in the late 16thCentury. This road, like many of the others surrounding it, is named after a former religious house in a reference to the nearby ruins of Lesnes Abbey which gave Abbey Wood its name.
