Place Name
Named after local landholders the Dames family, who owned the western part of Forest Gate, between Woodford Road and Tower Hamlets Road. Charles Richard Dames (1793 – 1862) was a wealthy sugar refiner, and like many city merchants, bought property on the fringes of London. He was elected a churchwarden in 1855.
