Dairsie Road, SE9

Place Name

Named after Dairsie, or Osnaburgh, a village and parish in north-east Fife, Scotland. The name of the village itself is uncertain, it has been suggested that it was made up, as part of a planned village. Many of the roads around Eltham Park are named after places in Scotland, the homeland of its developer Archibald Cameron Corbett, 1st Baron Rowallan, a Scottish Liberal Party and Liberal Unionist Party politician, who being a teetotaller did not allow any pubs to be built in the area.
