Dagenham Road, E10

Place Name

So called because it was laid out next to Dagenham Brook sometime in the early years of the 20thCentury. The name Dagenham comes from a local Anglo-Saxon chieftain and means Decca’s village, usually in a bow in a river. Quite how early a settlement it was becomes clear since it was first recorded in AD695 as Dœccenham.
