Place Name
Named after a local alderman on the Beckenham Urban District Council, James Crease, a Second Substitute Charter Mayor, who campaigned against the area being totally developed. Mr Crease, who ran a local greengrocers, opened Crease Park in 1936, preserving a small part of the park where the Eden Park Estate once stood. Although he served Beckenham for many years in a variety of roles he was born in Westbury, Somerset, in 1859. He sold his business in 1927, when he was aged 68.
