Place Name
Formerly North Street, although the area has undergone much redevelopment. It was renamed in the 1830s after John and Frederick Cowper who owned a lot of the property around here. The pair had gone into partnership some 20 years earlier, setting up large warehouses at St Paul’s Churchyard. The business flourished and they bought and ran a number of properties in the area.
