Place Name

Named after Joanna Cosyn who owned property here from the late 13thCentury, it was first recorded as Cosinelane in 1283 and la Cosyneslane in 1306. The property was passed down the family line to William Cosin, who was made Sheriff of London in 1306. John Stow in his Survey of London said it was named after “William Cosin that dwelled there in the [reign] of Richard II, as divers his predecessors had done before him.”
