Place Name
This or the alternative spelling Corpechum was the original, presumably ancient name for Wallwood Forest. Corbicum was revived for this street name by Arthur Punshon, who was mayor of Waltham Forest in 1966 – 1967. According to his nephew: “He had to fight tooth and nail to get the planning committee to accept that it should not have a road, close, or whatever appended.” A charter from 1253 removed its forest status allowing for it to be cleared, a process that was finally completed by 1700. Corbicum is a side turning from Wallwood Road.
