Coombe Ridings, KT2

Place Name

This is a private road. A reference to the local area of Coombe, which comes from the Old English word cumbe meaning a broad valley. It was first mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Cumbe and by 1260 as Cumbe Nevill after the de Nevill family who were lords of the manor. The term riding is of Viking origin and derives from Threthingr meaning a third part, in this case it may be after Coombe Ridings House.
