Place Name

This road built in 1906 was named after Charles “Charlie” Edward Clifford (1841 -1925), born in Mortlake he was a market gardener and orchardist – he cultivated orchards – who lived at Stonedale on the Upper Richard Road, opposite Derby Road, down to the railway. Clifford was known as an outstanding under arm bowler. From 1890 to 1899 he took 586 wickets at a cost of 2,245 runs. Before development this was agricultural land.
