Chapman Place, N4

Place name

Built by Richard Chapman, a builder, who lived in Strahan Terrace. Chapman had been granted the rights to develop the glebe estate between the Back Road and White Conduit gardens, by the rector who was hoping to cash in on the demand stimulated by the building of Pentonville, in Clerkenwell. But he had overstretched himself and was made bankrupt in December 1830 and forced to sell his interests in a large number of properties.
