Bushwood Road, TW9

Place Name

Thought to be named after the osier beds that were here. These small willows were cultivated here to be used for making wicker products. The name was approval by Richmond Council in 1898. Part of this road had previously been the edge of the Priory Estate, sold for development in 1875, and partly from the Twiggets, a riverside meadow enclosed by an Act of Parliament in 1823 that had been used as the osier plantation.
