Burrow Road, IG7

Place Name

A burrow is a den used by rabbits, foxes and the like. A number of streets in the vicinity are named after the habitations of forest-dwelling animals, and this would seem to be the case here too. This street was laid out on allotted land once part of the medieval Hainault Forest prior to its disaforestation in 1851.  During the 19thCentury there was also a Fox Burrow Farm located to the east of Romford Road, where Fox Burrow Road is today.
