Burgoyne Road, N4

Place Name

Thomas Burgoyne was a medieval landowner of Ducketts or Duckett’s farm (which itself was probably a corruption of Dovetts). In 1460, Burgoyne, who was an under sheriff for the city, gave the estate to St Bartholomew’s Hospital. He was well-acquainted with the parish having been appointed to keep the court of Bartholomew Fair on behalf of the City between 1455 and 1459. This road is said to be the most desirable on the Harringay Ladder.
