Unsurprisingly there was brewery here. Pickard’s Brewery is named in John Lockie’s Topography of London published in 1810 but brewers had been operating from around here since at least the early part of the 17thCentury. Barrel makers, an associated industry, were also in evidence with John Rocque noting Cooper’s Yard near here in his gazetteer of 1747.
