Brentham Way, W5

Place Name

A modern name, in reference to the River Brent which runs to the north of here. The Brentham Garden Estate was an Edwardian residential estate built sometime between 1905 and 1915 on land that once belonged to Pitshanger Farm. The name of the river itself is ancient and derives from the Celtic word meaning holy one. It was first recorded in an Anglo Saxon charter as Brœgente in AD959 and after various mutations became Brent sometime around 1540.
