Bexhill Road, SW14

Place Name

Takes its name from Bexhill-on-Sea (the name comes from the Saxon, Bexelei, which means the place where the box tree grows). Like the adjacent Eastbourne Gardens, it was named by developers after the East Sussex seaside town, probably in the mistaken belief that St Leonards Road was itself named after the district in another East Sussex resort Hastings.
