Berry Place, EC1V

Place Name

Before 1936 this was Mulberry Place, remembering the Mulberry Pleasure Garden which opened in 1742 in Corporation Row. The garden’s many attractions included mulberry trees, skittle alleys, concerts and firework displays. But the enterprise failed, and in 1803 the land was bought by Thomas Berry, a Kentish farmer.
