Place Name
Named after William Basket, citizen of London, who lived at Well Hall in the early 15thCentury with his wife Alice, which he acquired from John Foxholes or Foxhole. He was, according to RW Gregory and WH Browning in The Story of Royal Eltham, “a skinner and citizen of London. Two years later, in 1426, this William Basket conveyed the manors to Robert Myrfyn, on behalf of John Tattersall, Henry Chichele, Archbishop of Canterbury, Thomas Chichele, his nephew, Archdeacon of Canterbury, and others.”
