Place Name

Laid out over the site of the former Barley Mow Brewery which operated from here from 1889 having been developed on the site of the original Ship brewhouse, shown on John Rocque’s map of London, which itself had grown into “one of the largest establishments for brewing porter in England”. Brewing ceased in 1960. Barleycorn is the cereal from which beer is brewed.
