Lewis Atterbury (1656 – October 20, 1731) was rector of Hornsey and a royal chaplain to two monarchs, Queen Anne and her immediate successor George I. In 1719, the Bishop of London appointed him rector of Hornsey, an office he held alongside an early position as a preacher of Highgate Chapel. When the archdeaconry of Rochester came available he wrote to his younger brother, Francis Atterbury who was the bishop, applying for role – only to be turned down. It is on the Harringay Ladder.
