Place Name

One of a number of roads named in the early 21stCentury to reflect the changing make-up of the UK and more specifically London. In this case it is named after a major ethnic group and area of Ghana. According to the London Borough of Hackney’s website: “People from African countries began arriving in significant numbers during the 1960s and then again in the 1980s from a number of different countries including Nigeria, Ghana, Congo, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Uganda. Initially they settled in the Dalston area but now live throughout the borough.”
