Ancona Road, NW10

Place Name

One of a small cluster of streets that are named after ports, probably inspired by the local connection to Odessa.  Ancona is a city on Italy’s Adriatic coast and the capital of the Marche region. It was founded by Greek settlers from Syracuse in about 387BC and soon afterwards merchants established a Tyrian purple dye factory. It later became a Roman town.
