Place Name

Named after the playboy Prince Albert (November 9, 1841 – May 6, 1910), the future King Edward VII, the eldest son of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. Prince Alfred was patron of the Seamen’s Home, in Belvedere, which was established as a charity in 1865 to help “worn out and infirm seamen”. The home was moved to Banstead, Surrey in 1959.
