Abbey Road, NW8

Place Name

This was laid out over a track that ran from Lisson village to the Priory at Kilburn, which was founded in the 12thCentury. Until Henry VIII closed it down in 1537, Kilburn Priory was attached to Westminster Abbey, which owned most of the surrounding fields through which the path crossed. They were still known as the Abbey Fields when this path was made up into Abbey Road in the early 19thCentury.
