Place Name
Originally Smith Street, it was changed before the Second World War to commemorate 17thCentury clock and watchmaker Thomas Tompion (1639 – 1713). Tompion is regarded as the Father of English Clockmaking, his work with scientist Robert Hooke allowed him to create exceptionally accurate timepieces.
