Place Name
Thought to be named after William Umfreville (1708 – 1770), a gentleman, who according to the Hornsey Historical Society was a member of the Hornsey Vestry, a parish council prototype, in the 1740s and 1750s. He was also an Exigenter of the Court of Common Pleas, in other words an officer of the court, and a member of the Inner Temple. He was the last male heir of the branch of the Umfreville family of Stoke and Farnham Royal. It is one of the roads on the Harringay Ladder.
