Place Name
At ground level it would be difficult to tell how this name came about, but take a bird’s eye view and the reason for this, somewhat unimaginative name, becomes clear. With The Croft and The Vale bisecting it, the road takes the shape of a cross. This becomes much clearer when looking at post-war maps which show the roads being laid out in virtual isolation on agricultural land that once formed Bourne Farm.
