Place Name
Name change. The historic name of a field, Meophams, which lay on the north side of the road. If the name of the field has the same derivation as Meopham in Kent, it means meadow belonging to a man called Meopa. Originally called Old Grove Road, it ran westward from Rowan Road to Grove Road. It is shown on the 1913 Ordnance Survey map as part of Grove Road, it was renamed Meopham Road on December 6, 1927 by Mitcham Urban District Council’s Highways and Buildings Committee.
