Paddock Way, SW15

Place Name

So called because it was built on the site of the paddock attached to Bowling Green House. The development was designed by McBains Cooper, a large architectural multi-disciplinary practice in 2000. It consists of what the Putney Heath Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Strategy called “four uncompromisingly modern houses that have been built to be taller (three storeys) and more immediately noticeable than their neighbours in Garden Close. Their virtue lies in this modernity, since they are not a watered-down pastiche of the previous architectural themes present in the area, and they stand or fall on their boldness of design.” When it was proposed that the road be removed from the conservation area, the wealthy residents protested and, such is the way of these things, were told that it could remain.
