Place Name
Literal, this used to be the moat of Hanworth Castle, a royal Tudor hunting lodge where Elizabeth I spent part of her childhood and sometimes stayed during her reign. It is one of a cluster of local streets honouring the castle, which after burning down was rebuilt on its present day site, the now derelict Hanworth Park House, in 1797. The street was formally laid out along with the others in the group in the mid-20thCentury.
