Place Name
This road was built around 1863, part of the sudden suburban growth around Richmond. The most likely candidates after whom this road may be named is John Greville Hiscoke (born 1772), a bookseller living in the road and who held some property in it. His business was at 1 Castle Terrace, Hill Street. However, when Hiscoke married Elizabeth Honour Greville in May 1798 at St Anne’s Church, Soho, he had taken her name. Elizabeth, died at Castle Terrace in Richmond, on January 30, 1858. So, if anything, the road is named after her, not her husband. A property called Greville Cottage was sold in 1866.
