Place Name
Both the nearby pub, that has stood here since sometime in the mid-19thCentury (the earliest landlord was registered in the 1851 Census), and the road, take their name from the fact that from 1767, when George III bought an enclosed but swampy area known as The Alders or Alley, until at least 1842 it was owned by the Monarch. The road was redeveloped in 1960 closing it off from Lower Mortlake Road.
