Anna Neagle was the stage name of Dame Florence Marjorie Wilcox (October 20, 1904 – June 3, 1986), an actress and singer born in Forest Gate who was popular with audiences during World War Two. Her roles included Nell Gwynn in the eponymous 1934 film; Queen Victoria twice in Victoria the Great in 1937 and Sixty Glorious Years in 1938; and Edith Cavell in 1939s Nurse Edith Cavell. She continued to perform up to her death in 1986, aged 81.
