PLACE NAME
Anne Hathaway (1556 – August 6, 1623), the wife of the great playwright William Shakespeare. They were married in 1582, when he was 18 and she was 26 years old. They had three children, one of whom Hamnet died aged 11 of the plague. Anne outlived her husband by seven years. In his will Shakespeare famously made only one bequest to his wife, his “second-best bed with the furniture”. This is one of three local streets commemorating Tudor women.
