Recalling the nearby Mary Fletcher Memorial Wesleyan Methodist Church which was built in 1877 on a site at the junction of High Street and James Lane (now Fletcher Road) given by Samuel R Bosanquet. The church closed in 1969 and the congregation transferred to Leyton Tabernacle. The site was sold and the church and Sunday school, which was also on the site, were demolished in 1971 for housing.
