Goodhew Road, CR0

Place Name

Duncan Alexander Goodhew (born May 27, 1957) was an Olympic swimmer for Great Britain and won an Olympic gold for the 100m breaststroke and a bronze for the 4 x 100m medley at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. He also swam at the 1976 Summer Olympics at Montreal. He later became a motivational speaker. When he was aged 10, he fell out of a tree, a traumatic event which triggered permanent hair loss due to alopecia universalis. This road is named, like many on the former brickworks site in Woodside, after British Olympic athletes. The cluster includes Christie Drive, Redgrave Close, Adams Way, Backley Gardens, Akabusi Close, and Coe Avenue.
