Sir Anthony van Dyck (March 22, 1599 – December 9, 1641) was a Flemish Baroque artist who became the leading court painter at the time of Charles I. This is one of a cluster of streets that are named after famous portait painters, the others are Gainsborough Road, Kneller Road, Landseer Road, Lawrence Avenue, Lawrence Road, Millais Road, Reynolds Road, Romney Road, and Turner Road.
