Mallory Gardens, EN4

Place Name

Named after the author of the Arthurian legends, L’Morte d’Arthur, Sir Thomas Malory. The name was chosen in 1965 by the trustees of the Lancelot Hasluck Trust, which provided almshouses for married couples, widowers and bachelors. At that time existing local almshouses were mainly for spinsters and widows. The trustees were inspired by the connection between the first name of their founder and Sir Thomas Malory’s poem. This close was developed in 1967. The name of the road was misspelt.
