Place Name
Named after Robert Cooper Lee Bevan (February 8, 1809 – 1890), the eldest son of fellow banker David Bevan, a partner of Barclay, Bevan & Co, later known as Barclays Bank. Bevan who was born at Hale End, Walthamstow, and educated at Harrow School and Christ Church, Oxford. He too went into banking and on his father’s death, he inherited Belmont, an East Barnet mansion that his father bought from Job Raikes in 1826. Bevan junior founded Christ Church Cockfosters in 1839.
