Jackson Road, EN4

Place Name

Named after local pub licensee William Jackson who laid out Jackson Road by 1885 and later Capel Road. Jackson had taken over the licence of the Prince of Wales pub from his father and built the first suburban road in the area with plain brick pairs of houses to accommodate the railway workers. In 1893 he added a Gospel Mission Hall to the road, which is now a private house.
