Place Name
Remembering the former Lords of the Manor of East Ham the Heighams, the first being William Heigham who was passed the title and its lands from his father-in-law Richard Stoneley, when he died in 1600. The property had earlier belonged to Stratford Abbey until the Dissolution of the Monasteries under Henry VIII. When William died in 1620 it came into the hands of his son Sir Richard Heigham and then to his son Francis who passed it on to his daughter Mary Bendish.
